Faced with illness and the loss of the company she founded, a long-time widow attracts the affections of sprightly but ageing musician.
Set in Melbourne, Australia "I See You" is a story of love.
The film follows Lena, a writer, founder and CEO of a successful publishing company who leads a comfortable life with her beloved dog Jack. A long time widow, her devotion to her career, daughter Mary and granddaughter Joy has come at the expense of romantic love.
Mary is a steadfast single mother to Joy and a competent manager at Lena's company. She is reluctant to take a leadership role for fear of it consuming her life as it has her mother’s. For her part, Joy is on a coming of age journey as she pursues soccer aspirations assisted by love interest, happy go lucky school friend, Ethan.
At a company party, Lena meets Mick, a sprightly, moderately famous, ageing rock musician who piques her interest and vies for her affection. When Lena is ousted from her company and diagnosed with breast cancer, she must confront the isolation and meaninglessness of life in her twilight years.
The intertwining fortunes of three generations of women coalesce and in doing so they, and we, discover that although loneliness leads to death, love transcends all.
